In the UK the most common type of ant is the Garden ant or Black ant.
A Black ant colony contains just one Queen but other species can have multiple Queens.
A fully grown Black ant colony houses 4,000-7,000 female workers, but this can reach up to 15,000 for larger colonies.
We do also have tropical ant species such as Pharaoh, Roger and Ghost ants which tend to live inside warm, heated buildings.
These have different colony systems and it is important they are treated by professionals as you could actually make the problem worse.
Ants can sniff out food over wide distances and follow chemical trails to the food source.
It is important to identify the species of ant and take the appropriate action to reach the most effective solution. Where DIY treatment might provide temporary relief, professional pest control will find a permanent solution to your ant issue.
Make a note of when and where you notice ant activity so that you can share this with the technician. Apart from that, there’s no need for you to do anything – you’re best not to disturb what ant activity there is and wait for technician to advise on anything you might need to do.
Our highly trained technician will start by doing an inspection of your property, to confirm you have an ant infestation, the extent of the problem, as well as highlight factors that may have caused or attracted the ants, and any building defects that could provide potential access points.
After the initial inspection, the technician will decide upon the safest and most effective course of action for your ant problem. This will include the use of professional use ant gels. The worker ants will feed on this bait, carry it back to the nest where it will kill the Queen and the rest of the colony.
Avoid taking any immediate action unless advised to do so by the technician. The technician will explain their findings and provide relevant advice on every visit.
Where possible the technician will aim to discuss their findings with you in person, but this will also be detailed as part of our visit report you will be sent later in the day.
